Delegation of the Constitutional Court Participates in the Annual Opening of the Judicial Year at the Court in Strasbourg

A delegation of the Constitutional Court, led by Judges Prof. Dr Osman Kadriu and Tatjana Vasić-Bozadžieva, LLM, participated in the ceremonial opening of the judicial year of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

In addition to the traditional opening of the judicial year, a seminar was held focusing on the theme “Protecting Media Pluralism and the Democratic Process in Challenging Times.” The seminar was opened by the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mr Mattias Guyomar, and an address was delivered by Ms Anja Seibert-Fohr, Judge and Chair of the Organising Committee.

Within the framework of the event, two sessions were held on “Media Pluralism and the Right to Information,” featuring a presentation by Professor Veronika Bílková of Charles University in Prague. The second topic was devoted to “Freedom of Information and the Competences of the European Union, with Particular Reference to Restrictive Measures,” presented by Professor of EU Law Roberto Mastroianni of the University of Naples.

The second session, moderated by Judge Lorraine Schembri Orland, was dedicated to the protection of democratic processes. The President of the Constitutional Court of Austria, Mr Christoph Grabenwarter, spoke on the integrity of the democratic process and judicial oversight, while the President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia, Ms Irena Kucina, presented on the free expression of the will of the people as a prerequisite for safeguarding the democratic constitutional order.
