Memorandum of Cooperation Signed between the Constitutional Court and the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors

Today, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors “Pavel Shatev”, with the aim of enhancing inter-institutional cooperation, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience, and strengthening professional capacities in the field of constitutional law and the judicial system.

The Memorandum provides for the organisation of joint training sessions, seminars, conferences and other professional events, as well as the exchange of experts and educational materials. Particular emphasis will be placed on improving the knowledge of future judges and public prosecutors in the area of constitutional court practice and the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

“Since assuming the office of President of the Constitutional Court, this is the third Memorandum of Cooperation we have signed with state institutions. The first was with the Faculty of Law, and the second with the Association of Lawyers. I expect the most dynamic cooperation to be with the Academy. Over the past two years, the Constitutional Court has faced a natural generational transition. The professional Court service is the backbone of the Constitutional Court. The newly appointed professional staff require additional knowledge in order to attain the standard previously upheld by this Court. It is precisely in this context that we see the form of cooperation, enabling our staff members to attend advanced lectures at the Academy. At the same time, future candidates for judges or public prosecutors may benefit from the knowledge and experience that constitutional judges can impart, particularly in the application of international law,” stated President Darko Kostadinovski.

The Director of the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors, Strezovski, emphasised:

“Today’s signing of the Memorandum represents an important step. The interconnectedness of institutions implies partnership, above all in the service of the rule of law. It enables advisers of the Constitutional Court to engage with the Academy, while constitutional judges may deliver training and lectures. For the Academy, this will contribute to the enhancement of curricula and training programmes aimed at applying the highest standards,” stated Director Strezovski.

Representatives of both institutions expressed their confidence that this cooperation will contribute to strengthening the rule of law, safeguarding judicial independence, and increasing public trust in the justice system.
