Advisor to the Constitutional Court, Majlinda Ismaili, participated in the study visit and the project’s closing event entitled “Human Rights and Sustainable Environment in South-East Europe,” held in Strasbourg.
The event was dedicated to advancing the implementation of human rights standards in the field of environmental protection, with particular focus on the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, the execution of its judgments, and the development of new mechanisms and legal instruments within the framework of the Council of Europe. The programme addressed topics related to the so-called Reykjavik Process and the environment, the Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law, as well as the role of the Bern Convention in the protection of biodiversity.
The purpose of the study visit was to strengthen the capacities of representatives of institutions from South-East Europe in applying European standards in the field of human rights and environmental protection, as well as to deepen cooperation with relevant bodies of the Council of Europe.
The event was attended by representatives of the judiciary, constitutional courts, ministries of justice and environment, as well as other legal and institutional stakeholders from the region. Speakers included senior officials and experts from the Council of Europe, including representatives of the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights, the Department for the Execution of Judgments, the Department for the Reykjavik Process and Environment, the European Committee on Crime Problems, the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as experts engaged within the framework of the project.
Participation in this event reaffirms the Constitutional Court’s commitment to monitoring and applying European standards for the protection of human rights in the context of environmental protection and the rule of law.
