Officials of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia attended a regional conference on “Application of the European Convention for Protection of Human Rights – experiences and challenges of the courts in Central and Southeastern Europe”. During the event, the role of the national courts and judges was highlighted, in the course of procedures to enable efficient protection of rights and freedoms based on the convention. During those two days of the conference, the representatives of the highest judicial instances of Central and Southeastern Europe discussed five topics: “The freedom of expression and the courts”, “The right to an impartial trial in criminal proceeds”, “The fight against organized crime according to the practice of the European Court of Human Rights and the national courts”, “Acquisition and loss of property rights – principles of goodwill and good governance” and “Procedural rights – a right to access to the court in civil matters”. In the conference that took place on 15th and 16th September in Belgrade, judges from the European Court participated, as well as judges of the constitutional and supreme courts from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Srpska, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia. Mrs. Dobrila Kacarska, the president of the Constitutional Court, along with Mrs. Mirjana Lesevska, the head of the cabinet of the Court, led the delegation to the conference. The Supreme Court of Cassation in Serbia organized the conference as a part of the project “Strengthening of the effective legal means to prevent the violation of human rights in Serbia“, implemented within a joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
