The President of the Constitutional Court, Darko Kostadinovski LLD, today held a working meeting with the Public Prosecutor of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Nenad Saveski.
During the meeting, views and information were exchanged regarding the state of the judicial system and the rule of law, as well as the role and responsibilities of both institutions in advancing these principles and building a functional legal state.
The interlocutors emphasised the importance of ensuring the maximum independence and autonomy of judicial institutions as an essential prerequisite for the rule of law.
President Kostadinovski stressed that political actors and state authorities should demonstrate a higher level of constitutional, legal, and political culture and refrain from any form of influence or pressure on the judiciary. He pointed out that transparency is one of the Court’s key priorities, noting that the introduction of live public broadcasting of Court sessions represents a significant step toward greater openness and accountability.
“Attempts to politicise and ethnicise the work of the Constitutional Court and any judicial authority, as well as the creation of a perception of distrust in institutions, constitute a direct attack on democracy. It is high time for politics to remove its hands from the judicial system, and for the judiciary to deliver concrete results,” stated Kostadinovski.
Public Prosecutor Saveski emphasised that without clear accountability and measurable results, there can be no genuine rule of law. He added that transparency is an essential prerequisite for strengthening citizens’ trust in institutions.
“The Public Prosecutor’s Office remains firmly committed to consistent, timely, and impartial action. At the same time, it is necessary for all institutions to assume an active role and contribute to building a system that delivers results. Distrust in the judiciary can only be overcome through concrete actions, professional integrity, and visible accountability. The rule of law is not a declarative commitment, but an obligation that requires continuous and responsible action,” stated Saveski.
During the meeting, the President of the Constitutional Court also informed the State Public Prosecutor about the working meetings held in Athens, as well as the opportunities for further cooperation, exchange of experiences, and support for joint initiatives, particularly in anticipation of the Hellenic Republic’s Presidency of the European Union in 2027.
